The Sensitive Selection by Fest Anča

The Sensitive Selection by Fest Anča will show the specific ways of picturing the sensitivity and sensuality in the animated films, as well as its way of influencing our senses. The selection will be introduced by its curator Maroš Brojo, the artistic director of International Animation Festival Fest Anča. The duration: 90 minutes.

Sense of Touch

Chloe and Louis are deaf-mute and secretly in love with each other. Instead of using words, they communicate by gesticulation. When dancing, the choreography speaks for them. When Louis gathers all his courage and at last invites Chloe out for dinner, she brings along two stray kittens. Louis is trying to suppress his allergy to cats, but finds it difficult to relax.

Futon

You crawl inside your futon and everything — from the memories in your mind to thoughts of the future, recalled sensations, sexuality — all melt together into a single pleasant feeling. In the futon, your body wanders around in search of sensation. The soft texture of this animated work was achieved by drawing images on paper and then incorporating them into the picture frame via tracing paper. Futon deals with the relationship between movement and the senses.

Astigmatism

A boy, having lost his glasses, can only see one thing in focus at a time. His sight gets attracted by the sounds that surround him. He will have to explore a blurry world of unknown places and strange characters.

(Nicolai Troshinsky, SP, 2013, OV+ES)

Absent Minded

A schoolkid’s daydreaming is suddenly interrupted by his teacher. He threatens to cut off the pupil’s ear to ‘motivate’ him to concentrate and prevent any further escapes into the dreamland.

(Roberto Catani, IT, 2013, OV+ES)

Lay Bare

“Only the shallow judge by more than appearances“, said Oscar Wilde. The film Lay Bare exposes the human body in the most intimate situations— either in the relationships within our families or with our lovers. Erotic and comic, beautiful as well as vulnerable.

(Paul Bush, UK, 2012, OV+ES)

Fok Nabo Distorio

The experimental abstract animation is based on the instrumental composition Liivaterade Raamat by the Estonian harpist Liis Viira. It consists in an improvised recording of various objects through optical lenses. The cold and technical camera-eye shots are combined with organic elements, like for example colours running.

(Francesco Rosso, ET, 2014, OV+ES)

1000 Plateaus (2004-2014)

A dot is not a dot, but the meeting point of two routes, and the road is the destination. Canadian Steven Woloshen maps his passion for travelling and jazz using coloured diagrams in this abstract film. «1000 Plateaus» was created entirely on the front seat of Woloshen’s car.

Cruising

Based on a true story, Cruising follows a young man through an extrovert's dream and an introvert's nightmare; the chaotic and cacophonous world of forced-fun aboard an insular cruise ship. His initial inability to accept his environment drives him to suicidal fantasy, where he learns to cope with his stressors, discomfort and anxieties.

(Zachary Zezima, USA, 2014, OV+ES)

Stammer

E-e-e-e-e-eat ice cream!

(Shen Jie, CH, 2013, OV+ES)

Goodbye Rabbit, Hop Hop

A human mind in the city looks inward and escapes into the rabbit's territory.

(Caleb Wood, USA, 2013, OV+ES)
