In the summer of 1922 Lenin suffered his first stroke. The film Taurus, directed by the legendary Alexander Sokurov, focuses on the period of time that the dictator spent in isolation in the middle of a forest wasteland, dependent on others to take care of him, including the future ruler Josif Vissarionovich Stalin.Sokurov tells the story of the “tamed bull” suggestively and meditatively, which results in a thorough analysis of an individual’s state, but also of a society in which one era gives way to another.
