My Street Films

The project My Street Films emerged some years ago in the UK. Its aim is simple: inciting people to make a short film about their street. In other words, trying to make them more aware of their living space, spread its uniqueness, cast a critical eye over its state, reveal its secrets, and get to know their neighbours. In today’s era of smartphones, shooting a video has never been easier.

Feel free to draw inspiration from the best films from Slovakia as well as from abroad, and shoot your own My Street film.

My Street Films SK is organized by A4 - Space for Contemporary Culture and DA Films, with support of the Visegrad Fund.

Ten Images of Jana Farmanová

Robert Kirchhoff

The artist Jana Farmanová spent her whole active live in her studio in an ancient house situated in the centre of Nitra. After thirty years, she is forced to leave. The house has got a new owner.

Na Knizeci

Taťána Rubášová

I couldn't find historical records, photos or documents, but I found Mrs Markova. A story of one street as told by a woman who has been its resident for 76 years.

Play It Again, Boys!

co-laboratory

The story of Milda and his pack, love for music, and a little experiment. Documentary as a time machine trying to link two diametrically different eras of a corner pub on Řezáčovo Square.

Behind a Poster

Michal Hříbek

Every day we read plenty of texts. How can we regulate this amount?

Vtáčnik or a Letter to the Developer

Eva Križková

When my family and I, a five-year old girl, moved to Vtáčnik 1, we were the only ones who had a house. It is hard to believe that such a place even exists in Bratislava, although it doesn’t anymore.

Follow the Arrows

Petra Krejčová

An arrow always indicates a direction. “People are not this observant…”

#IKnowMyStreet

Matúš Ďuraňa, Lucia Furtáková

Do we know the people that our streets were named after?

The Place

Khin Hsu

This film takes place in Park Vitkov, Prague 3. We could call it a poetic documentary. It presents the difference between the Burmese and the Czech culture.

Stromová Street (Nocturne)

Martina Červenková

By day, Stromová is a street characteristic by its calm atmosphere. By night, the sleepy pedestrian area changes into a dark and somewhat spooky place, full of strange sounds.

Decent House

Ivo Bystřičan

Because of the elevator, residents of the house only know the neighbours on their floor. A minimalist documentary probe into local predetermination and polite urban indifference.

My Home

Bohdan Bláhovec

My house. My home. Where is my home? One afternoon in one urban quarter. An encounter of innocence and inebriation on a few square metres. Paradise on earth it is to see.
