Fanny and Alexander

The extensive family saga through the optic of a ten-year old Alexander is somewhat of its author’s autobiography, reflecting his childhood memories and struggle with the toils of life. Fanny and Alexander are twins, enjoying a relatively joyous childhood in the early twentieth century Sweden. Things change when their father dies and the children's mother decides to marry the local bishop. Conflicts between the boy and his stepfather are not long in coming. Alexander flees into the world of fantasy and imagination, which the bishop sternly punishes.
