Rebel Without a Cause

Rebel Without a Cause is most likely the most memorable film in James Dean’s short career, which ended when he was 24 and passed away in a car crash. It has gained the status of a cult classic mainly as it is one of the pioneers of the coming-of-age drama subgenre, which has had its representatives in every generation of filmmakers ever since the subgenre emerged. Dean plays the role of Jim Stark, a young man with troubled past, who along with his family comes to a new town, looking for new friends among his peers. However, the place in the gang as well as their respect must first be earned. Therefore, he decides to join their “chickie runs” as well as dangerous car races toward a seaside cliff. As of yet, the film has not been screened in Slovakia. The showing at the 4 Elements Film Seminar will be its first public premiere.
