With typical long shots and slow pace of Alexander Sokurov tells the story of the Japanese emperor and his country's defeat in World War II. It focuses on the reflection of the mental state of the main character before and during signing the capitulation. His film is not only exciting but a psychological game, but also pays tribute to a pair of important historical figures - Emperor Hirohito and the American General Douglas MacArthur.
