Breakfast with... the Chaotic Mathematician (lecture)

ranajky.jpg

What is chaos? And can its theory even exist? Isn’t it chaotic? And what does it all have to do with mathematics? Mathematician Roman Hric will offer you answers to these questions while increasing entropy by eating breakfast. Without numbers and formulas. Admission to the informal lecture is free of charge; at the Art Cafe, you will be able to buy breakfast to go with it.

Roman Hric

Roman Hric received his doctorate in mathematics in 1999 at Comenius University. He is currently employed as an associate professor at the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. During 2001–2005 he worked at the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa as a postdoc and during 2006–2008 at the Université Paris-Nord as a holder of the Marie Curie scholarship. In 2005, he became a laureate of the Academician Štefan Schwarz Award (the award of the Slovak Mathematical Society for the best young mathematician). The main topic of his professional interest is the mathematical field of dynamic systems and ergodic theory, in connection with that also topology, geometry, and differential equations.
