Web Series – A New Form of Creative Content

Michaela Sabo - picture.JPG

“I can just divide my feature film into ten eight-minute parts, upload them to YouTube and I’m done!” However, it is not that simple… Internet content has its rules and regulations. Writing for a “web series” is significantly different from any other scriptwriting discipline. And even though the Internet is currently the platform with the most freedom for publishing strong authorial content (in some regions of the world the only one), creating a “web series” is not as easy as it at first seems.

The lecture about “web series” will be focused on introducing and explaining this new audiovisual world. You will learn about basic business models and rules and will see the best, but also the worst that the “web series” world has produced.

Michaela Sabo  studied at VŠMU (Bratislava / Slovakia), DAMU (Theatre Academy in Prague / Czech Republic) and UCLA (Los Angeles). ). She was a script reader for Czech Television (ČT) in years 2011 - 2012. In September 2014 Michaela moved to Berlin to be part of a Serial-Eyes program. An intensive 8-month full-time postgraduate course on TV writing and show running based in Berlin. Michaela found her network during the studies and is currently living in Berlin. She is able to read and write in Slovak, Czech and English languages. She also speaks German. Michaela was part of the EPI European TV Drama Series Lab in the year 2013.

Apart from her own work as a freelance writer and creative producer (several projects in different stages of development, one TV series ready to be aired this fall and a feature film in production) Michaela is also working as a pitching trainer (Sarajevo Film Festival, Serial Eyes – DFFB, Series Mania – Writers Campus, Midpoint workshops, Odessa International Film festival).
