Breakfast with Philipp Eichholtz

Philipp Eichholtz is one of the representatives of the so-called German Mumblecore group. Mumblecore emerged as a distinctive branch of the independent US cinematography in the beginning of the third millennium. Its characteristics, including extremely low budget, non-actor cast as well as emphasis on authentic dialogues, managed to gain popularity among both film connoisseurs and wider audiences. The names like Andrew Bujalski, Lynn Shelton, Aaron Katz or the Duplass brothers will undoubtedly ring a bell even with some Slovak cinephiles. The German Mumblecore dates back to 2009, builds on the same principles as Mumblecore and proves that successful filmmaking need not necessarily be conditioned by formal education or relief funds. What really matters is enthusiasm and the determination to change things „from below“.

Philipp Eichholtz will not only introduce his brand new film Luca Dances Quietly and one of the most iconic works of the German Mumblecore – the comedy Heavy Girls. He will also join us on Saturday morning to talk about how to make a film with practically zero budget, arrange for its distribution and get ahead in filmmaking by taking the less trodden paths.

Hosted by Benjamin Cölle. Organised with the financial support of Goethe-Institut Bratislava.
