A Feeling for Light

The work of a lighting designer focuses predominantly on human eyesight. However, to create a complex experience, taking into consideration all the other senses (hearing, taste, smell, touch and sometimes even synaesthesia) is a must.

Laura Murguía Sánchez

The lighting designer Laura Murguía Sánchez born in Mexico City is the key lecturer of this year’s workshop Invisible Štiavnica – newest media workshop_03. She obtained her PhD degree in Sustainable Architecture in Barcelona’s Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Already in 2011 Laura and her husband founded Haz Lighting, the first independent lighting design studio in Slovakia. Nowadays she is an external lighting design lecturer at the Technical University of Košice in Slovakia. Since 2012 she has been co-operating with the lighting studio Lightroom based in Prešov. Laura is a member of Professional Light Designers Association (PLDA) and Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). Her Haz Lighting studio is a creative environment with a very active work team. Its members like to call their approach to work ‘cooperative activism’. In their projects Haz Lighting utilize a wide range of artistic expression such as architecture, public space installations, exhibitions or various performances. Laura will talk about combining and intertwining them as part of her presentation at the workshop Invisible Štiavnica – newest media workshop_03 during the 4 Elements Film Seminar.
